A six-step migration process, rollback at every step

You get one migration window — so every step is rehearsed before it is executed.

A data center migration is high-risk, highly complex systems engineering — not a weekend of moving a few servers. As general contractor, Baimo builds the migration plan around applications and business continuity: migration strategy is chosen per application from its RTO/RPO requirement (online, near-online or offline); disaster recovery and emergency rollback plans are designed and documented; and at least two full rehearsals are completed before the live cutover. Our team includes migration consultants with more than ten years in the field and over 100 delivered projects.

Current-state inventory and target architecture

Current-state inventory: an IT team assessing facility infrastructure

A thorough inventory — application list, dependencies, data volumes, performance baselines, network and security policies — becomes the input to the migration plan.

The target architecture is designed around business growth and compliance requirements, making explicit what moves to cloud and what stays on premises. We migrate for a reason, not for migration's own sake.

  • Application and asset inventory
  • Dependency and call-chain mapping
  • Data volume and performance baselining
  • Target architecture and capacity planning
  • Cloud / on-premises boundary definition

Migration strategy and RTO/RPO tiers

Migration strategy: architecture review and RTO/RPO planning session

Online, near-online or offline migration is selected per application from its RTO/RPO requirement, treating mission-critical systems differently from ordinary ones.

Using virtualisation and cloud technology, the disaster recovery data center can double as a test and development site — maximising return on investment.

  • Application tiering (RTO / RPO)
  • Online / near-online / offline strategies
  • Bulk and incremental data synchronisation
  • DR site reused as a test and development environment
  • Migration windows and business impact assessment

Cutover rehearsal and rollback plan

Cutover rehearsal: the operations team running a migration dry run

At least two full rehearsals are completed before the live cutover, covering switch-over, verification and rollback — every step reversible, every action owned.

Disaster recovery and emergency rollback plans document the decision points, rollback triggers and named owners.

  • At least two full cutover rehearsals
  • Emergency rollback plan and trigger conditions
  • Cutover command structure and role assignment
  • Cutover scripts and checklists
  • Business verification and sign-off

Cutover execution with zero business interruption

Cutover execution: engineers performing the server migration

On cutover night we execute the rehearsed scripts, with real-time status at each checkpoint and immediate escalation to the plan on any anomaly.

After migration we provide a stabilisation period covering performance tuning, configuration review and rapid issue response.

  • On-site cutover night coverage
  • Real-time progress reporting and exception handling
  • Post-migration stabilisation period
  • Performance tuning and configuration review
  • Migration wrap-up and knowledge handover
